INTRODUCTION The “Libera Associazione per gli Studi Etruscologici e Topografici (LASET)” (Membership Association dedicated to Etruscology and Topographic Studies) is a non-profit-making organization operating in the fields of research, advanced professional training and scientific communication.
Its members are: young historians, archaeologists, anthropologist, philologists, museologists and museographers who have created amongst themselves bonds of scientific and human solidarity and who share the desire of expressing their own potentials the best possible way and to be an active part in the progress of knowledge, collaborating with academic institutions, research bodies, foreign cultural institutes and scholars who share the objectives and spirit which breathes through our association. OBJECTIVES LASET aims at: · formulating study and research proposals in all the disciplinary areas pertaining Archaeology and Ancient History, mainly involving the young scholars and trying the active collaboration of universities, research bodies, public and private institutions; · favouring discussions inside the national and international scientific community through the organization of conventions, seminars and study days; · taking care of the publication of scientific studies; · promoting the advanced professional training in various disciplinary areas. CONVENTIONS The conventions represent the heart of the association’s life, being the main moment of dialogue and exchange of experiences. The interdisciplinary characteristic and the possibility of an updated survey regarding the many topics of the historical, archaeological and anthropologic sciences, offers the opportunity for keeping up to date and an analysis of great importance thanks to the collaboration of universities and research bodies and to the involvement of young scholars. Conventions organized by the Association up to now: Etruscology Studies Seminars: The Seminars are dedicated to topics pertaining Etruscology, the study of Ancient Italian Civilizations and the relations between the populations of the Mediterranean basin; they are mainly reserved, therefore, to researchers and specialists of the specific sector.
National Conventions “Federico Halbherr” for young Archaeologists: They are an event-meeting which takes place every two years in order to encourage debates amongst young Archaeologists, who are invited to introduce their own researches, derived from the degree, specialization and doctorate theses, throughout the Convention. Subsequently, all the participants’ works are published in the Proceedings volume.
RESEARCH Every LASET member may suggest new research projects to other Members and form working teams. It is also possible to take part to different working teams.
Inside each working team, there will be a coordinator who establishes the number of people who collaborate to the project, possible other partner bodies, funding requests, etc. The project operating group will have to take care of the : a. feasibility study b. formulation of the project stages c. utilization of structures d. definition of the realization, verification and evaluation modalities e. total co-ordination of the project Each collaboration will be on a free and voluntary basis, except for different arrangements, established in relation to specific needs acknowledged and approved by L.A.S.E.T. Board of Directors, which will have to take place as occasional professional service contracts or allotment of research benefits. The scientifically valid works can be introduced at the “Federico Halbherr” Convention for young Archaeologists and then published.
In order to form new working teams, please send the request form together with a descriptive report of your own research proposal; LASET will undertake to release the proposals amongst its own Members, inviting them to participate.

ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL TRAINING The theoretical knowledge and the skills acquired throughout the university and post-degree education necessitate a continuous updating. In any case, the continuing education is, for everybody, a fundamental instrument of personal and professional growth. One of the main objectives of our organization, therefore, is the planning of courses, seminars and trainings, self-financed through the membership fees, destined to the education and updating of all graduates and, more in particular, of those who already operate in the ambit of protection, development and preservation of the cultural heritage (directors of museums, superintendence officers, restorers, etc.).Our Advanced Professional Training sector does its best in order to ensure a high quality updating; for each formative project, it is given a particular attention to the significance of the didactic-formative activities, to the importance of the topics and the teachers’ professional authoritativeness. For each course or training, there have been reserved up to five participating posts, which is free to directors of civic museums, libraries and archives, to the Superintendence, Town Councils and Provinces officials.
There have also been allocated up to three participating posts, free to European and extra-European foreigners, residing in their own place of origin or regularly living in Italy, owing an academic qualification comparable to the degrees required for each Course. The Administrative Department of the Advanced Professional Training Sector will be responsible for deciding on the equipollence of the academic qualification for the subscription to the chosen Course. A good knowledge of the written and spoken Italian is required. “Museum’s Science Area: Museology, Museography and Museum Technique Specialization Courses Since 2005, Laset started the study and experimentation of advanced professional training courses and post-degree updating destined to the various expertises operating within the ambit of museum institutions. With this objective in mind, the didactic contributions which the Students enjoy, are given by qualified teachers coming from universities, superintendences, research centres, public and private institutions, local bodies and private companies. Short courses-trainings are organized at important Museums in Rome. Under preparation: 3rd Museology, Museography and Museum Technique Specialization Course September 2008 (dates to be defined) “Communication and Media Area: 2nd Journalism and Archaeological Communication Course October 2008-March 2009 (dates to be defined) HOW TO BECOME MEMBERS Ordinary and collective members: Foreign and Italian graduates can enrol free by sending their own application to our e-mail address: info@laset.it together with a short curriculum specifying their own academic qualification, possible post-degree qualifications and masters, publications and professional experiences. Students must specify the University they are attending, the degree course and title of their Thesis, if they are final year students. Foreign and Italian associations may apply, through one of their representatives, as collective members, sending a short description of their own objectives and activities. The enrolment is free. Enrolments do not need to be renewed every year, but it is possible to request a cancellation at any time.
Sympathizing members: Those who are not specialized in the field of historical and archaeological studies, but still are fond of the subject, may enrol free to the Association as Sympathizing Members by sending their application via e-mail to the following address: info@laset.it and specifying in the subject field: Sympathizing members.
